Invitation

Dear Collegues,

It is our pleasure to invite you to the “FATTY PIG – Science and Utilization” Conference which will be held on 17-18 November, 2011 in Herceghalom, Hungary.

Fatty pig breeds are special and ancient porcine breeds that have had once enormous economic significance which have faded in the light of modern commercial intensive breeds. Fatty pig populations can be found in South East Asian and Far Eastern Regions, in Latin America, in South Africa, and some breeds – the Iberico and Mangalica – in Europe. These latter two breeds have demonstrated, that if used for producing premium quality products they can find their relevant market role.

We believe that these special breeds incorporate tremendous national, genetic and market values and it is necessary to understand their physiology and genetics in order to be able to convert these results into daily production.

Asian and European experts gathered in Hanoi, Vietnam in September 2009 launched a “Fatty Pig Group” for these purposes with special regard to European and Asian breeds. With the forthcoming conference we would like to strengthen the initiative and to involve more scientists and industrial actors dedicated for basic and applied research, to change their knowledge as well as to exploit the new scientific results in daily food industry and business life.
